In-Boom Furling: Five Systems

There's no perfect solution to boom furling. It's not an easy bit of engineering. Still, all the systems on the market continue to mature. Schaefer's new offering looks like a good bet for medium-sized boats.

In-boom systems should be well-
ûdesigned, well-installed and main-
ûtained in good order.

Our last good look at in-boom furling systems was in the August 1, 1998 issue, when we liked both ProFurl and Leisure Furl, giving the edge to the latter despite its greater cost. The recent introduction of Schaefer's new in-boom system gives us an excuse to revisit the subject and the systems in the field.
