Santa Cruz 27

Bill Lee's first production boat set a standard for fast, lightweight keelboats that are easily sailed by a small crew.

Like the French Impressionists of the 19th century who changed the way the world looked at art, beginning in the 1970s a handful of boat designers and builders located in Santa Cruz, California, had a similar effect on the sailing world. Led by Bill Lee, the "wizard" of the bunch, designers and builders like George Olson (Olson 30), Terry Alsberg (Express 27), Ron Moore (Moore 25), and others introduced a 'fast is fun' concept that continues to influence today's design and production methods.
