Kudos to Standard Horizon (www.standardhorizon.com) for replacing the cracked body of my HX850S handheld VHF. Even though the radio was broken while packed in my luggage on a return flight from the BVI, Standard Horizon fixed it free of charge! It’s a great radio that deserves the PS Best Buy pick!

Shortly before our Lake Michigan cruise, I ordered a Den Haan oil lantern from Defender Industries (www.defender.com) with a note attached stating that if they couldn’t guarantee I would receive it before my departure, to cancel my order. The lamp arrived in an impressively short time, but with a broken chimney. I emailed Defender on a weekend and received a reply the next day; their power was out due to a recent hurricane, but they would see what they could do. A new lamp arrived before my departure date! What great service in spite of a natural disaster!

Weems & Plath of Annapolis (www.weems-plath.com) deserve recognition for recent excellent service. I dropped my years-old Catalina ships clock from the deck to the ground, knocking the sweep second hand right off. I called W&P, told them I had abused their product and needed service. I was told to fill in the downloadable service form from their website, send it to them with the clock, and the lifetime warranty would cover the repair. I boxed the clock up, sent it in, and received it back in about a week, postage paid. Nice, easy, fast.
